“Tetelestai”
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” (tetelestai) and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:28-30
Done. Finished. Paid. Liquidated.
No more debt. No more guilt.
Nothing left but freedom.
And the wild desire to tell everyone
about the one who set you free!
One word commanded to the demons in the graveyard by the sea – “Go!”
One word called out over the dark and windy waves – “Come!”
One word declared to us all – “Done!”
One word to the condemned, the lost, the confused, the hopeless – Done, Paid!
Obey him? Yes, joyfully!
Serve him? Yes, gladly!
For me, for you,
He paid it all!
